Dream Life Life
I have been working on this post for months.
Months!
I just can't quite put my thoughts into words but I'm afraid if I don't post it soon I'll miss my chance.
So here it is.
With rather unrelated pictures of our date this weekend because oh. my. gorgeous. this is why I live in Utah.
Anyway.
Over a year ago my sister-in-law burned the {then} new Colbie Caillat CD for me. I kept it in my car and whenever I had exhausted the three semi-acceptable radio station options we have around here I'd switch to the CD. It was my only CD in the car because lets be honest...why buys them anymore? So Colbie and I have gotten to be very close and I consequently memorized every word and every note of the entire album. Not that you'd be able to tell from my singing.
Colbie has a song on her album called Dream Life Life. Evan found this song extremely entertaining for some reason. Why does she have to say it twice? What the difference between a "dream life" and a "dream life life"? He started calling his goal to be a seminary teacher his "dream job job" and it just kind of stuck.
Fast forward to now.
My life is a dream life life
My best friend wakes me up every morning with kisses to bribe me in to packing him a lunch, and I always give in.
I pull out of the driveway of our adorable house that we are slowly attempting to turn into a home, which, by the way, is so much fun.
We stay busy working where people are actually paying us to do what we've always wanted to do
And after work, we trade stories about our dream job jobs.
Turns out even your dream job job kind of sucks some days, so we trade those stories too.
We sit on the floor in the nursery and wonder what our little mister will be like and feel him kick,
and then I put Evan to work building/painting/hanging just one more thing while I make dinner.
He complains about his hip, I tell him to go ride his bike.
I complain about getting fat, he tells me I look beautiful anyway.
Sometimes we email each other love songs.
Sometimes we get frustrated and disagree.
Most times we just laugh a lot.
We sleep in on the weekends and savor every minute of our time together doing things like perusing garage sales and napping through football games.
We pay our bills and read our scriptures and discuss politics like we have a clue.
We share the housework, clip coupons, chat with our neighbors, and borrow their tools.
We go to church on Sundays, have family dinners, and call home to our Mamas.
Does this sound so incredibly boring and ordinary?
Because it is absolutely my dream.
And the thing is
we could be doing other things.
So very many other things.
When you're 23 and 25 the options are limitless... or so we hear.
I'm dying to show Evan around Italy
We have scuba diving, mountain biking, marathon running dreams
I've got a Masters degree in my sights and he playing with the idea of a PhD
We'd love to live somewhere new to us both
We'll do those things too
Someday
But this is what we want most:
A home
full of love
A family
with lots of babies
{the definition of which has yet to be agreed on...}
A life
where we enjoy the small details
and thank the Lord every day for blessing us with them.
So maybe you can see now why I have been hesitant to write this post.
A blog post about how watching my husband wash our very own car in our very own drive way makes me break out in a smile?
A post about how I get a real thrill out of buying a new scented candle from Walmart to warm up our kitchen?
But that's where I'm at right now
And maybe someday I'll forget how much joy I found in all of these tiny things
So just for a minute I wanted to pause and celebrate.
Because we have so much.
And it is absolutely my dream.
