Baby Cosette's Nursery

Our little lady has decided she's going to make her entrance into the world a little early. I have been measuring small at all of my doctors appointments but I wasn't too worried about it because I was on the "small" side with Winston plus I have been able to run this whole pregnancy so I figured that was the reason. Gradually people began to make more and more comments when they asked what my due date was about how I looked so very small and it started making me uncomfortable. At my 34 week appointment my doctor ordered an ultrasound just to make sure everything was okay. They did the ultrasound the next day and my doctor was out of the office so they had a different doctor look at it who told me everything was fine. Then I got a phone call the following day from my doctor who said everything was not fine and I needed to go see a specialist for lots more testing. I went in to meet the specialist Monday this week and she told us that baby's abdomen is measuring 4-5 weeks behind the rest of her body. She explained that babies don't use their abdomen while in utero so the fact that all baby's measurements were normal except the abdominal girth told her that my baby was following a restricted growth pattern. She is shunting all the growth to her brain and other organs that are more vital {she says this is a good sign because and it means baby recognizes that there is a problem and is taking care of herself}. Her best guess was that either the placenta is not attached properly or that the umbilical cord is very small. She put me on a 72 hour watch so I go in for ultrasounds and non stress tests and doppler cord testing every Tuesday and Friday and I have to do kick counts three times a day in between. My due date is technically October 6th but she says we'll never make it past September 16th {at which point I'll be 37 weeks along and considered "full term"} so to plan on being induced that day if not earlier based on baby girl's test results each visit. My angel mother flew in to go to the specialist appointment with me Monday since it was Evan's first day of his master's program and right in the middle of the school day so he couldn't be there. Once we found out she was for sure coming early we got to work! We made a billion freezer meals, cleaned the house, found some premie clothes {they say to definitely plan on time in the NICU after delivery because she is going to be teeny} and best of all finished off the nursery!

I am in love with how everything turned out, it took a lot of crafting and thrifting and help from Grandma Hutch but that's probably part of the reason it makes me so happy. My very favorite book from my childhood is The Secret Garden, I don't even know how many times I have read it. When we found out we were having a girl I knew immediately I wanted to base her nursery on the book. My favorite quote from the book says:
 "If you look the right way you can see that the whole world is a garden"
 and I feel like its such a beautiful little motto for our sweet Cosette. Can't wait to get here here!!
{You can obviously see that her monogram on the wall is unfinished... Cosette {something} Fox. Still working on her middle name so hopefully she's going to give us a little more time to decide!}

But here's the {basically} finished product:

  2. I don't remember how I found your blog, but just wanted to wish you congratulations and the best of luck with the delivery of your baby girl! I just had my little girl at the end of June, and I measured small the whole pregnancy. We had several extra ultrasounds and her abdomen measured very tiny at one of them, too. Thankfully, we didn't have to have a lot of testing and she came on her own at 39 weeks, only 5lbs 10 ounces!

  5. Oh Kamille. My heart goes out to you. I've been there. Smart little girl shunting growth to the most important parts. :) We'll both be praying for all 4 of you and please include me on your list of helpers! Love you!
    P.S. The NICU nurses are the best ones anyway. We missed them with our one non-NICU baby. :)
