Family History
We watched the Disney movie CoCo for pizza movie night one week and I promise you that movie is filled with the spirit of Elijah! I felt my love for family history rekindled and planned an FHE to help the kids get interested. We printed pictures of all their direct ancestors for 4 generations and then cut them out and glued them on to a chart so the kids could see how everyone was related. I read this article on The Small Seed which talked about teaching children to create an "intergenerational self" (an understanding of who they are through family history) to combat the "cyber self" (the image they portray of themselves on social media). When children were able to do this they showed higher levels of self esteem, lower levels of anxiety, better family functioning, and higher resilience. Sign us up! Especially when it's research based because our PhD has taught us all about that now.
